Some things to consider about Google Search when listing...
« on: January 23, 2010, 09:43:58 PM »
Titles can't be too long... I believe ours is a max of 100 characters..

Don't make your item descriptions too short... Google likes more then 15 characters here.

Expires to far in the future... Max of 3 month listing durations (90 days) but they prefer we use 30 days or less ... BUT making your duration too short is also just as counter-productive.   On average, I suggest making it 30 days with the relist option set if you want it listed for longer amount of time.

NO PUNCTUATION OF ANY TYPE IS ALLOWED IN THE TITLE AREA.  Using them in the descrption is acceptable.

"Running" the title such as a-boy-and-his-friend in either title or description is interpreted as one long word by Google and will boot your listing from searches.

Apostrophes (') will cause ////// marks when used in the title and shipping & payment info. fields and throws off spider searches.

Watch for missing or incomplete descriptions...

Be careful that you haven't picked up that space in front or end of the title.  Double spacing will cause 0 to appear in the extra space and throws off Google feeds.

Do NOT Use all CAPS when listing an item, whether in the title field or description area. An occasional word in All Caps is allowed but no more than one or two words on a listing.

Unless you are offering FREE shipping... The shipping cost field MUST be filled in for spiders to pick it up.  Otherwise, it is considered misleading and grounds for kick off.

Each listing is to state it's "condition" type.  The condition of item must state whether it is new, used, and or refurbished.

NO HIDDEN LINKS inside HTML to another site!  Automatic explusion from Google Searches!!

Promotional text such as "free shipping" or "lowest price guaranteed" are not allowed in titles and descriptions.

Items such as vehicles, event tickets, and service listings are not allowed in the "Products" item type.

Listings for counterfeit goods, fraudulent listings, and illegal items are prohibited.

Items requiring a method of payment that lacks buyer protection, such as money order or wire transfer, are not allowed.  I've not seen anyone booted from this yet but if you put it in the item descrption are that you accept these at "buyer's own risk" it may work.

Talking about the length of time, Crys--what about the dutch listings?  Have they said anything about that?  They like items of about 30 days.  But, if you list each of those dutch items separately, You have to come up with something different in each title and in the description or they throw it out.  Just curious about that.
